It seems the things worth keeping are often the hardest to hold…

I had two things in life that mattered. My mother and my music.
Mama was taken from me too soon, and now music is all I have left. It’s the thing that’s pushed me right out of backwoods Georgia into Los Angeles, where the line between fantasy and reality shimmers and blurs. I’m finally making my way, making my mark. I can’t afford to fall for one of music’s brightest stars. Not now. Music is all I have left, and I’m holding on tight with both hands. I won’t let go, not even for Rhyson Gray.

I had one thing in my life that mattered – music. The only constant, it’s taken me to heights most people only dream about; a gift dropped in my lap at birth. I thought it was enough. I thought it was everything until I met Kai. Now she’s all I think about, like a song I can’t get out of my head. If I have to chase her, if I have to give up everything – I will. And once she’s mine, I won’t let go.

My Soul To Keep is definitely one of my top 15 of 2015 books!
This book has everything I love. Romance, great characters, and a story that grabs you until the end.

Kennedy is a really awesome author and very interactive with her readers. When I decided I wanted to feature her on the blog I went straight to her and asked If I could bother her with a few questions! I wanted my readers to see what went into her book and inspired this wonderful novel!

My Soul to keep is about Kai and Rhyson. Kai is an up and coming musician and Rhys is an established musician. Where did this idea come from? Who, if anyone inspired your characters?

Music has been such a huge part of my life…always! I was in the band from elementary school til college, and sang all my life. I considered pursuing singing, did some background vocal stuff on a few projects. But it wasn’t what I wanted to pour my life into. So writing about music came really naturally to me, but the characters just kind of sprang out of nowhere. Well, and this will sound weird, but Chris Brown and Rihanna actually got the seed planted! LOL! I was just fascinated by how obsessed with one another they were. That they could not stay out of each other’s lives, even with everyone watching and no one wanting them together. It was so toxic, but we couldn’t NOT watch. And I just started toying with the idea of 2 high profile people figuring out how to be in love and how to navigate those pressures in the public eye. It evolved, and by the time it became MY SOUL TO KEEP, it was a lot less toxic, a lot sweeter, and only one of them, Rhys, was already famous. So it changed a lot, but they did inspire some of my early imaginations.

If there was one thing you could tell a new reader before starting this book, what would it be??

Great question! I would probably say what I say to a lot of readers who post sad faces and weeping emoticons after the first chapter of the book! LOL! Hang in there. It’s not all so sad. The book starts off with a really wrenching event for Kai, but I needed the reader to see where she comes from, what compels her, what has hurt her and shaped her. Dropping them into the middle of one of the hardest days of her life does that. So I guess I would say it’s not all tears! I think Rhys and Kai have some really funny moments, and I hope that balances out some of the more emotionally difficult parts of the book.

How many books have you written? And which is your book baby?

I have written many! How many have actually seen the light of day? LOL! I have 3 books from my BENNETT series out, through my traditional publisher, Grand Central/Forever Romance. And the fourth with them releases Feb 2. And then, of course, my first self-published book, MY SOUL TO KEEP. So that’s 5. Soooo hard to believe. Book baby? Like my favorite? Geesh. That is hard. Each has a niche carved out in my heart for different reasons, so that’s hard to say. I will say that the hero I have the softest spot for is Cam from book 3 of the Bennett series, BE MINE FOREVER. He’s probably my most broken hero to date. His journey is pretty wrenching, and I remember crying while I wrote parts of his story. Which I don’t do much. I think from a sheer couples’ chemistry standpoint, MY SOUL TO KEEP would be that book. That’s not a straight answer, but it’s an answer! LOL!
